Building "The Rainbow Park" - Phase 2

In the first week of August we finished the 10 frames made out of bambus and could put them up! It was a hard work but we were really happy with the result!

No cranes, no big machines, all is made and heaved with our hands!

The main structure is done and the apprentices are going to finish the roof, since our time is out in Cali. David and I headed to Perú for a two weeks trekking and the volunteers went for a tour through Colombia!

We were really happy to have built this project with our own hands, we got to know this amazing building material and the group was really nice. Thanks to Gloria, Alvaro, Andrés, Israel, Rafa, the volunteers from Lippe and everybody in Cali and Germany that supported us!

Building "The Rainbow park" - Phase 1

I have been a member of the NGO Schule fürs Leben (School for life) for about two years. In 2007 this german-colombian organization built a school made out of bamboo for refugee kids in Cali, Colombia and has been expanding the campus since in order to give more kids the chance to go to school and escape poverty, childwork and violence. Every year volunteers from Germany come to Cali and build part of the school, last year it was a workshop building for timber work apprentices. This year the goal is to build a covered "park", where the kids can play without being exposed to Cali's burning sun all the time. So my husband David and I came with 7 volunteers from the Lippe University in Germany, to make this project reality!

Building the model with the bamboo-apprentices and the volunteers

The model is ready! except for the roof

Other models for baboo projects made in Ecobamboo

Workshop in Ecobamboo. We learn how to work with bamboo
and start prefabricating the beams for our project

The beams are finally ready, after 3 days of hard work!

Now the most difficult part comes: load them onto the truk!
they are really heavy!

 Mission completed!!!

enMovimiento

Since 8 and a half years I left my home country Colombia and have been “In Motion” (en movimiento) all the time. I lived in Germany, Ghana and France and travelled around Europe and Southamerica. And it seems like it won't stop, I'm moving all the time, meeting new people and cultures and seeing new architecture around the world. Right now I'm in Colombia, building a school made out of bamboo with german volunteers and in the next months I will be travelling around Southeast Asia, before returning to Germany, where I live now.
Here I will be telling WORLD STORIES, sharing with you new PLACES and ARCHITECTURE. I hope you enjoy it!
